The house is nestled between two forks of the Yuba river in an area that is locally called The Ridge. Located 20 miles from nearby Nevada City, the area boasts a rich sense of community and a landscape of red Manzanita bushes, crystal clear swimming holes, and dramatic mountains.
The Gold Rush towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley are a short drive away, and boast a healthy artisan and outdoor enthusiast community. Each town has organic markets, healthy nightlifes, and seasonal festivals to celebrate the winters and hot summers. Both towns have a variety of grocery stores, including various health food stores, and boast everything that you might need without having the huge influx of chain box stores. All of the local schools also rank in the upper percentile in the state, with the local high school of Nevada Union providing a great education as well as a litany of after school sports and activities. Fall is a particularly beautiful time of year, and is a destination of many people who come to view the changing leaves and crisp night air.

The area within an hour's drive includes Tahoe with its many skiing oppurtunities during the winter and hiking during summers, the famous Downieville biking trails, and numerous rivers to kayak, including the Yuba and nearby forks of the American River. It doesn't matter what mountain sport that you prefer, from fly fishing to rock climbing to hiking, the Sierra Nevada mountains offer the oppurtunity do it in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. The house is situated ideally no matter how you choose to enjoy the outdoors.

The Ridge is a vibrant community that is centered by the local organic market Mother Truckers, and the North Columbia Schoolhouse. From the annual Storytellers festival to the beautiful produce and large community board at Mother Truckers, the area has a long and rich history of being a connected an comfortable place to live. It is a special place, like no other in the world. It is commonly called "the ridge" because it occupies a ridge between the crystal clear waters of the South and Middle forks of the yuba river. The river is an amazing place to hide from the hot summer days with it's large swimming holes.
